Press release for April Autosolo

Local club Devizes and District Motor club ran a successful charity autosolo on Sunday 13th April at Kemble airfield, in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance. The event had 50 competitors taking part in anything from a Nissan Micra through to a Subaru Impreza, and even a Volvo estate!

The event was won by Neil Jones (over from Wales) in a Mazda MX5with an impressive overall time of 636.9s.

For the first time the event had an entire family competing against each other. Roger (Dad), Amy (Mum), Daughter Megan 17 (who has only just recently passed her driving test) and Son Jamie 15. You only need to be 14 years (or older) to be able to compete. There was some concern from both parents if their children would beat them this time. However even though Megan got much closer during the day, it was not going to happen this time. But many competitors on the day remarked “it won’t be long”.

6 members of the Devizes and District motor club that live in the Melksham area took part.

Jake Clifford and Amy Fletcher were doing well early on in their Mazda MX5, until the power steering failed, making the car harder to drive.

Dave Hiscock and Megan Fletcher (17) were also experiencing some mechanical issues with the gear linkage becoming sloppy, but still kept going with big smiles on their faces.

Roger and Jamie Fletcher (15) had an issue free day, but were struggling for grip with their tyre choice and wear.

The club run regular events throughout the year that cater for every type of budget. If you want to find out more then pop along for one of our club nights or visit https://www.ddmc.co.uk/
